Gave myself a bit more time this week as I felt I had a good composition and concept to celebrate the Whoopster. Posted full size. Check my other blog for more rugby caricatures - http://rwccaricatures.blogspot.com/
Follow Andrew as he celebrates the features of the rich and famous and anyone brave enough to have him sketch their caricature.

Courtney Love, Alan Rickman and Jason Segel
Here's my latest offerings to the Caricaturama Facebook group. I'm pleased with the style I'm pursuing but my likenesses are starting to slide a little. I'll have to go back to basics for my next one.

Caleb Followill!!! Get back in your treehouse!!!!
I really love drawing beards. Here are a couple of my favourite bearded singers. Caleb Followill and his KoL brothers seem to attract a lot of mixed press, but whatever goes on back stage can't detract from the fact that he's got a cracking Joe Cocker-esque/ Kenny Roger-renian kind of voice. And he certainly can't do anything wrong in the eyes of my wife!!!
Another furry faced warbler I admire is Guy Garvey of Elbow. Not only does he have a luscious set of lilting larnyx but he's also quite a jovial jockey of the discs - http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0072q60. Apart from playing an ecletic mix of tunes from past, present and future his irreverent quips between songs often have me giggling like a naughty ninety year old nanna who has just heard a swear. Indeed I've not chuckled as much at/with a radio personality since Dave Lee Travis donned his synthetic all-in-one tiger suit and snarled his way through the title role of Macbeth. The hairy cornflake.
Apologies to Guy for making him look a little too like the love child of Henry VIII and Captain Pugwash! I'll try put in a dash of Chuck Norris and Orson Welles when I crack open my crayons and colour this in.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
I recently watched Fight Club again (great movie) which got me thinking about another Brad Pitt caricature. Then I realised that over the years I've already done several. It's very revealing to look back over work from previous years, particularly of one person, and see the change and development in style. So in chronological order . . .
And wherever Brad goes Angelina is sure to be checking up on his movements!

Daniel Day Lewis
My latest Caricaturama entry Daniel Day Lewis. Enjoyed working from a reference pic (a still from the film I'd wager) which gave a different perspective than a standard passport style photograph. Also added a background, which I usually don't make the time for. Think I'll make more of an effort in the future though as the background can add so much more to the image. Don't forget to check my other blog at:

Rhys Darby, Jermaine Clement and Brett mcKenzie
Rhys Darby's birthday the other day apparently. Went to see a gig of his about a year or so ago and hurled this on stage at him.
Whilst I'm on about Kiwi comedians here's some old sketches I did of Jermaine Clement and Brett McKenzie, the colour one is a work in progress.

French and Saunders and other comedy caricatures
Here's another piece that was published about 18 months ago in NZ magazine The Listener. The whole experience around this was a big learning curve for me. Both in terms of the creation of the image and communicating with clients.
And dipping further into my archives, I find amongst my dust covered scribbles and doodles a few of my other favourite comedians.

A novel approach to the feeding of your lunatic mage
A couple of book covers that I did for my friend and colleague, Doug Van Belle last year-ish.
The above was for his book 'A Novel Approach to Politics' which didn't actually make the cover as the publishers were nervous about copyright regarding the costumes. We came up with a rough alternative:
. . . but they didn't go with it. My illustrations for each chapter made it in there though, I'll dig 'em out and put them up next post.
Next is a cover for Doug's comic fantasy novel, which can be found here:

Hopefully they'll be many more collaboration with Dr. Van Belle, starting today, go get 'em chief!
And a cheeky back cover:

Nick Cave Caricature
Couldn't resist doing this week's Caricaturama Showdown 3000 challenge this week, Aussie cult warbler Nick Cave. Love these challenges as it gives me the opportunity to really explore something a bit different. Also updating my rugby caricature blog tonight too.

Tommy Lee Jones as Rodeo Clown
Last week Tommy Lee Jones was the victim at Caricaturama 3000 home of the world's finest caricaturists. I'd been wanting to do something slightly different than just a straight illustration so after some deliberation turned TLJ into a Men in Black Rodeo Clown.
I think this might be my last entry for awhile as I have a couple of potential projects that could score me some cash! The first involves just some really basic simple cartoons but could be the start of a whole series of products.
The second is a bit hush hush for the time being, but I'm sure I'll be posting some work in the coming weeks.

Caricaturama Showdown 3000
There's a fantastic group on Facebook called Caricaturama Showdown 3000. It's full of the world's most skilled illustrators and artists and has provided me with a real source of inspiration and envy! Seeing how other doodlers set about the same subject is fascinating and inspiring. The standard is always exceptional and has left me quite jealous of the creativity and perception of other caricaturists. It's all good though serves as great motivation to improve and refine my own skills.
Here are my contributions to the weekly competitions they have had over the past month or so.
